Eric Eldon’s First 100 Days

Sometimes the memory in Silicon Valley is long, and sometimes — it’s short. Just about three months ago (that’s right, just three months), Eric Eldon was named the new Co-Editor (with Alexia) of TechCrunch. To say Eric’s job is a “tough job” would be a massive understatement. He’s had to make a lot of small and a lot of bigger decisions in a very short period of time, all within an atmosphere of uncertainty and under the umbrella of a public company parent. In his first month, I’m not sure he slept at all, choosing instead to spend time with all of his colleagues, recruit new writers, chart out a new path, move apartments, fly cross-country to see loved ones, and speed down the 280 to reestablish ties with Sand Hill Road and other Valley players. I caught only a little glimpse of this whirlwind, seeing Eldon field what seemed like 10 real emails per minute once he assumed his new role, and eventually, he seemed to get around to answering everyone. I just got back from NYC for the 2012 Disrupt conference, and Eldon and all the TC writers and staff put on a really great, fun show. Aside from the conference, TC got its groove back, now Alexia is co-editor, the scoops have been pouring in, the quality of writing is excellent, it’s fun to read, and it shares a variety of opinions. It wasn’t an easy task — and this is just one guy’s opinion — but in three months, Eldon and everyone at TC have created excellent content and coverage, and a really fun environment. (Tipping my hat…)
